When ChatGPT launched, I felt something shift. After more than a decade working in AI, I knew this was a moment to build something that mattered. I connected with Eliza Feltus—soon to be my cofounder—and we started asking ourselves a simple question: where could we make the biggest impact?

The answer led us to climate tech. And what we found surprised us. Renewable energy projects were failing at staggering rates—70% nationally, and up to 90% in some regions. Not because of technology. Not because of funding. Because of community opposition and permitting battles. Critical infrastructure was dying in public meetings and local hearings.

Between us, Eliza and I had spent 23 years using AI to understand how people form opinions and make decisions. We realized we could bring that expertise to a space desperately in need of it. That’s how Flypower was born.

A year in, we expanded to data centers—where we discovered the same pattern playing out. An estimated $64 billion in U.S. data center projects have been blocked or delayed by community resistance since 2023.

These aren’t just statistics. They represent power grids that won’t keep up with demand, clean energy that won’t reach homes, and AI infrastructure that won’t get built.
